Career Development Awards


  • Independent Scientist Awards (K02)

    This award fosters the development of outstanding scientists with the need for a period of intensive research support as a means of enhancing their research careers. Grants are awarded to independent scientists who have had independent peer-reviewed research support.


  • Senior Scientist Awards (K05)

    For the support of well-established outstanding scientists whose contributions have been critical to the mission of the institute.


  • Mentored Clinical Scientists Development Program Award (K12)

    The K12 mechanism is designed to foster the development of advanced clinical research skills through didactic training and mentored research experience. Support will be provided to eligible institutions to develop or enhance research training opportunities for clinicians selected by the institution, who are training for careers as independent researchers in the drug abuse and addiction area of biomedical and behavioral research.


  • Scientist Development Award for Clinicians (K20)

    To foster the development of outstanding scientists with potential to make important contiributions to the fields of alcoholism, drug abuse or mental health (ADM) research. Primarily intended to provide supervised research experience for clinically trained individuals, especially physicians, who show special promise for a research career but do not possess sufficient research skills.


  • Scientist Development Award (K21)

    To foster the development of outstanding scientists with potential for making important contributions to the fields of alcoholism, drug abuse or mental health (ADM) research. Primarily intended to meet the need for supervised research experience for highly promising biological or behavioral scientists who need further supervised research experience.
